Oran's Weekend review: Livingston and Hibs Win while the relegation battle continues!

Hamilton vs Livingston


Hamilton come into this game after a boring 0-0 draw against the team from Granite City whereas Livingston winless in their last 5. Both teams looking to pick up 3 points as a win for the ‘Accies’ would see them rise out of the relegation zone. A win for Livi would see them cut the gap to Aberdeen in forth to just six points as the campaign enters the business stage.


First Half: Both teams started of sluggish until Nicky Devlin had a shot from just outside the box unable to trouble the keeper. Just on the quarter of an hour mark Nicky Devlin played a ball into Jay Emmanuel- Thomas where he pushed off Aaron Martin with a fantastic touch then rounding it off with a thunderous strike finding the top left corner of the net to make it 1-0 Livingston. Hamilton Accies was unable to take the game to Livingston after Jay Emmanuel-Thomas found the breakthrough only until the half hour mark when Cammy Smith was driving into the Livingston area when he eventually had a shot beating the keeper with a great effort to put the Accies on level terms. Shortly after Livi found themselves on the attack again when Nicky Devlin fed a ball into the head of Jay Emmanuel-Thomas to then play a ball into Scott Pitmen who smashed it home from point black range to make it 2-1 to the ‘Lions’

Second Half: Midway through the second half Scott Martin played a ball through to Ross Callaghan who was clear on goal however the shot from Callaghan wasn’t enough for Hamilton and another chance goes begging to put the Accies level. Minutes after Josh Mullin had a superb effort from 20 yards out curling past the keeper but just clipping the crossbar in what would have been a goal of the season contender. One check of the watch for Kevin Clancy was enough as Livingston clinch a top 6 place for the second time. Hamilton drop points on the road as they continue their search to stay in the Scottish Premiership.





Ross county vs Hibs


The ‘Staggies’ coming into this game after a 3-2 win against Kilmarnock as they continue their search for safety. Hibs coming into this fixture after a 1-0 loss to St. Johnstone. A win for both sides would be crucial as Hibs looking to maintain 3rd spot whereas Ross county find themselves 10th place.


First Half: The game started off slow with both teams relucent to attack however Keith Watson misplaced a ball when Martin Boyle pounced on with a clear on goal chance however the hitmen for Hibs unselfishly laided off Chris Cadden who then had a shot from close range skying it over the bar to keep it level

Second Half: Minutes into the 2nd half the conditions played a part in the game when Coll Donaldson lumped a ball up which fell in the path of Billy McKay who hit it on the half volley to break the deadlock to put Ross County in front. Hibs were looking for a response when Josh Doig mishit the ball however Martin Boyle was fouled by Ross County defender Alex Lacovitti in front of the path of John Beaton who didn’t hesitate in pointing to the spot. From 12 yards out Martin Boyle had the chance to convert it home to make it 1-1. Martin Boyle stepped up and sent Ross Laidlaw the wrong way to make it 1-1. It was Hibs turn to take the game to Ross County when a ball was sent across by Paul Hanlon to find Kieran Nisbit who smashed it in the back of the net to complete the comeback. Ross Country couldn’t take their chances as final whistle was blown to deny any chances for Ross County to go 6 points clear of Hamilton who sit in 11th.
