Middleton Joins Saints

Young Rangers winger Glenn Middleton has joined St.Johnstone on a short term loan until the end of the season. The exciting young prospect has had loan spells with Hibernian and Bradford City however he struggled for game time at either and has been back at Rangers for this season, failing to make it on the park for the 'Gers' team in the league this season as they remain unbeaten, although he did make a cameo appearance in their demolishing of Falkirk 4-0 in the League Cup. Middleton joined Rangers in 2018 from Norwich and has since made 28 appearances for the Glasgow side scoring on 5 occasions. He made 6 appearances for Bradford City last term, however, his loan spell was cut short when their season was halted last March.

Middleton comes with international experience, turning out for Scotland at u17, u19 and u21 levels making a combined 43 appearances scoring 10 goals in the process. Middleton is a tricky winger often renowned for his electric pace and this move could be perfect for the 21 year old winger to kick-start his career. He comes with a lot to prove and if he can get in the team there is no reason for him to do well for 'saints' who could do with his pace and ingenuity at the moment.

Overall, this seems like a good move for all parties involved. St.Johnstone get a young player hungry to impress;Rangers have a young player out on loan hopefully being involved in first team football (especially with the arrival of Scott Wright imminent) when he would have otherwise been sitting out;Middleton has a chance to show Scottish football what he has to offer and give Steven Gerrard some hard decisions to make. Being only a 6 month loan move this also means that it is an incredibly low risk move for all involved. Unfortunately for ‘saints’ Middleton cannot play any part in the League Cup final as he is cup tied.
