It was a rather cloudy afternoon in Cumbernauld, which saw the ‘Bully Wee’ host on league leaders, Cove Rangers. Although, there was some uncertainty whether this game will go ahead after having a pitch expectation just hours before kick-off, the SPFL decided to dismiss any requests to call the fixture off after the artificial pitch appeared to have ‘frozen up’ the night before matchday. The last time these two sides met was back in October, where Cove came out on top after running rampant as they put three goals past a helpless Clyde side.
1st Half:
- Cove dominated early proceedings with Iain Vigurs having a wayward shot sail past the post.
- Mins later, Kevin Nicoll played a lovely weighted ball into Adam Livingston, who narrowly saw his effort just go wide.
- It was Cove Rangers who had the next chance when Shay Logan delivered a inswinger into Blair Yule, unfortunately for the league leaders, Blair Yule was unable to lash onto the incoming ball.
- Just on the brink of the 20th minute, Cove were denied a penalty just after Kevin Nicoll dragged down Jevan Anderson, however. Steven Reid was unconvinced, leaving a seething Jevan Anderson receiving the first booking of the game.
- Rory McAllister was next in the book when the striker caught Ally Love in the face, leaving Steven Reid with no choice but to hand out a yellow card.
- The best chance of the half fell to Ally Love who found himself free at the back post, however, rather usurpingly, the forward saw his headed effort swing by the bar.
- Moments later, Cove were looking to upset the Clyde fans, when Blair Yule turned past Johnathan Page, before striking the ball just past Neil Parry.
Second Half:
- Cove looked to dominant in the early proceedings of the second half when Harry Milne went on a run taking it past two of the Clyde defenders, before lofting a ball into the box.
- Cove had yet another chance to break the scoring when Robbie Leitch missed a gilt-edged chance after a exquisite ball from Virgurs.
- Iain Virgurs opted to have a direct shot from his free kick. However. It was an relatively straight forward save for Neil Perry.
- It was Clyde’s turn to have a chance when Adam Livingston had his cannoned chance denied,.
- Soon after, the deadlock was broken through Iain Virgurs who belted a hit from just outside the box to put the league leaders ahead on the 70th min.
- It was clear Danny Lennon’s slide wanted to take the game to Cove after trailing narrowly. It looked as if the Bully Wee’ changed system to go more attacking in the search to equalise the scoring.
- On the brink of the 80th min, Rob Jones had a tantalising chance from a delightfully lofted ball from Adam Livingstone.
- It was a last chance solon for Clyde, however. Cove just wouldn’t budge in which played it’s part in the ever so narrow victory for Cove, which takes them 7 points clear from Montrose who sits 2nd.
