Accies Signing Report

Accies signings report So far accies have added 5 new signings to strengthen their squad as the Lanarkshire side get ready to battle for premiership safety once again in this report I will take you through each player and let you know what they can offer to the squad Callum Smith-Callum Smith was Accies first signing of the summer as he penned a 2 year deal with the south Lanarkshire side having spoke to some Dunfermline and Airdrie fans it’s very mixed opinions with some thinking he’s capable of making the step up to the premiership and others surprised he got the move however at 20 years old he could turn good last season at airdrie he played 35 games bagging 6 goals and getting 9 assists one thing that both fans agreed is that he will add hard work and pace to Accies attack having watched him during the friendly v St Mirren he looked lively and very quick always looking to beat a man and either get a shot away or get a ball into the box that is the only time I’ve seen him play so far as I couldn’t watch our friendlies v Hibs or Motherwell and he didn’t make an appearance in the season opener to Celtic however with both Templeton and Ronan Hughes injured he could be set to start against Ross County and if he does accies fans can expect a lot of hard work pace and drive from the youngster overall this will either be a great success for accies if he becomes a success and if not it’s a risk free hit

Ross Callachan-A few weeks after smith signed accies announced the signing of former hearts and St.Johnstone midfielder Ross Callachan who had a injury riddled season only making 8 appearances all season not getting a goal or assist however when fit has real quality and could a real steal for Brian Rices men if he stays fit I could only get the opinion of a Dundee fan who said Ross was very unfortunate with injuries having only played 2 games before suffering a major injury ending his season however he made himself a fan favourite at dens park as he was good on the ball was able to drive and create chances and was good at shielding the ball and getting the ball to his teammates which is something Brian Rice will definitely hope he can bring to Hamilton he made his first start against Celtic and formed a good midfield with Scott Martin as a tough midfield duo and looked good on the ball which he will be hoping to continue going into Hamilton’s game against relegation contenders Ross County Charlie Trafford-Accies also captured the services of Inverness midfielder Charlie Trafford who worked under accies gaffer Brian Rice in his first season at Caley thistle I was lucky enough to interview Charlie who said there was interest from other clubs as well as accies so when I asked why he chose accies he said “I worked with the gaffer in my first year at Caley he’s passionate and obsessed and I know what he expects from me so it’s a place that I can continue to learn and develop it’s a club that puts me back in the window for the national team and it’s a young energetic team with a lot of talent so hopefully somewhere I can have an impact and make the team and boys around me better” Trafford is someone who will add a bit of experience and fight to a very young accies side and if up for the challenge I’ve never really seen him play and he only played a short time against Celtic coming off the bench so I can’t rate him based on that performance we will hopefully have a better chance to see him against Ross County Tunde Owolabi-Accies signed non league goal machine Tunde Owolabi after activating his release clause which was a rumoured £50,000 however this hasn’t been confirmed the 25 year old striker was on great form for fc United of Manchester yes I’ll say that once more fc United of Manchester scoring 35 goals from 41 games I couldn’t find how many assists but he quickly made himself a fan favourite at the non league side and a interesting stat is he was the top goal scorer in England’s top 7 divisions (premier league championship league 1 etc) the Nigerian born attacker is confident he can make the step up to professional football and was met with an outpour of love and good wishes who are already planning a trip up to a hamilton game to see him play and I’m pretty sure they already have something mad like 3 double decker buses full with more people booking everyday which if a player has that affect on a club it can only be good unfortunately I wasn’t able to talk to a fc United of Manchester fan however looking at the comments they say he offers pace strength shooting finishing and flair and there hasn’t been one bad thing said I saw Tunde play in the St Mirren friendly where he came on as a sub causing problems and forcing the keeper into some good saves he is yet to make his competitive debut however that will hopefully come against Ross County as the Nigerian will look to open his accies account Hakeem Odoffin-Accies finally singed a right back after the capture of former wolves full back Hakeem Odoffin the Englishman had spent the last year and a half with Livi but this season struggled with injuries however was part of the Livi squad that beat champions Celtic 2-0 the right back put in a decent performance in his accies debut as he looked good going forward and could possibly feel hard done by with celtics first as it looked like he was brung down in the build up but Wilie Collum waved away the Accies players protests at 0-0 he delivered a excellent ball into David Moyo which looked destined to put accies 1-0 up however the Zimbabwean somehow didn’t convert or even find the target. Overall I feel accies business this summer has been good but we still need some players in the wing centre back possibly some back up full backs and maybe even a goalkeeper @acciesfanstv @thisweekonthespflpodcast
